My favorite sushi joint this side of the port Mann. Rivals some of the best in vancouver/Richmond and they offer a phenomenal fresh sheet that one must try. My staples are spot prawns with deep fried heads, gindara fillet, aji sushi, chirashi don, and their nabeyaki udon on a cold day is perfection. Everything is meticulous with a no BS interior. Don't be fooled by the decor, there's a reason this place has been around for as long as it has. Props to the head chef, he's always a gentleman. The servers are always accommodating when I bring the kids as well. Prices are in line with their quality so don't be surprised. If you want the typical run of the mill set boxes and packaged miso soup go to Akasaka just down the street. If quality is what you're after than go here.

Sushi deprived... so a spur of the moment trip up across the border for a late lunch OR early dinner! No wifi available in this restaurant so couldn't post pics until we got home.
A welcoming clean environment. One menu had a description of the "special selections" but the main menu just had "titles", no pics or ingred descriptions for the rolls or maki, sadly.
The hamachi & shima aji nigiri were very fresh & pleasing to the palate. The sushi rolls were well composed with "fresh" ingreds and when dipped in my concocted wasabi/soy dipping sauce very good. Must say the selections were small compared to other places we visit.
The disappointment was definitely the clam dish, gorgeous to look at but total lack of "flavor". The preparation was lacking; not removed from the "foot", no garlic or butter flavor... just blah. Topped dinner off with a delicious ice cream... flavorful and not too sweet!
Highlight of our meal was the nigiri selections and the ice cream without a doubt! -

Don't get me wrong this place is great and I would strongly recommend. I'd definitely go back as well, but my expectations were higher after reading reviews...etc.
The rolls are really small and there are only 6 pieces in each order. I tried their blue fin tuna nigiri which was delicious, to die for. I guess I should've ordered more nigiris.
Had gomae and agedeshi tofu to start and they were both very average. -

First time visit here. Wasn't too busy for a week night. Service was polite, food delivery was reasonably prompt. We ordered the traditional miso soup and ebi sunomono to start. Both delicious. Particularly nice was the Ebi with two large prawns flayed, and even the seaweed was delicious (not to salty).
Ordered Nigiri with unagi, dynamite roll and oshiko.
The first two were delicious. The oshiko had something leafy added (can't recall the name) but gave it a perfume type taste. I performed a manual extraction on remaining pieces. Suggest asking them Not to add this if you order.
Overall experience was generally good. But one suggestion to staff, please ensure you ask all parties at the table what they want to drink. Not just one and assume everyone else will be the same. My wife was quite offended. Not a good way to start a meal! -

Overall, Hanako is great in terms of quality. The seafood here is consistently good, and even other non-seafood dishes have polish and taste as well. Hanako's charm derives from the fact that everything within its' menu reaches a satisfying standard, if not surpasses. But take note; the specialties here lies within the special seafood menu. There are a variety of exotic fishes and seafood that are served from the specialties menu, and as it constantly changes it is almost guaranteed that the seafood ordered from there is fresh.
As for the service, service here is warm and polite, and you have the option to watch the main sushi chef prepare sushi plates (which is a delight to see!)
And just to list a few personal recommendations: Sockeye Salmon Sashimi, Chu Toro Nigiri, Seared Sable Fish Nigiri, Tamago Nigiri (Yes, I'm serious; Hanako has the best Tamago I've tasted in my life), Hanako Roll
However, good the food may be, Hanako is one of if not the most priciest sushi restaurants within Surrey. Although the sushi here tastes amazing, sometimes the prices can feel questionable. Regardless of if you agree with the prices or not, the cost alone makes Hanako a formal dining spot instead of casual. So if you're looking for an appropriate food joint with a large group of friends for example, unfortunately, this place will probably not be your go-to spot.
But all in all, this restaurant, offers the best sushi in Surrey. If you haven't visited this place yet, I urge you to give it a try!
